Vocaloids are voice software that are meant to sing. There are Japanese Vocaloid which are given anime personas. They are used for weaboo/oatku songs.
Then there are English vocaloids who are used for things such as backup singers. English Vocaloid were never meant to have personas but Japanese users gave them one anyway.
If you type in vocaloid in YT you'll find a lot of fan created PVs that show vocaloids singing.
